Terrific Times in Texas

We made our annual journey to Texas on April 8th. The drive took us 14 hours and I was impressed with how well Nate did with the drive. Mostly due to the portable DVD player that our neighbor Christi let us borrow. Hours and hours of Elmo on end can drive a parent crazy, but keeps your child manageable!

We stayed the first night at my sister Stephanie's house. Nathan and his cousin Helen were reacquainted. The last time we visited (July 2009), Helen was only 1 month old! Now she is crawling and smiling and showing her little personality.

On Friday, we spend the day in Granbury at my parents house. We timed our visit to coincide with my Grammy visit, as well as a visit of my Aunt Renie and Cousin Lizzie.

We lounged around the house and backyard, paddled on the lake, played Apples to Apples, went out for ice cream, and finished the afternoon at a great city park.

Do we look related?

On Saturday, we took an outing to the Fort Worth Zoo with my sister Stephanie and her family, as well as our other sister Amee.


I love the Fort Worth Zoo. It's one of my favorite zoos. We only made it a couple of hours before Nate fell asleep in his stroller and we knew it was time to call it a day!

On Sunday, we took Nate and Helen to JCPenney to have their portrait taken together. Nate was a beast! He's usually all smiley and happy when getting his picture taken... that was not happening this time! We finally got at least one decent picture. We're waiting on those to come in on the 23rd.

After portrait time, we met Chris's Uncle Randy (and the rest of my family) at Riscky's BBQ. Yum!! We had a great meal and Randy had a good time talking with Nathan. He helped to keep the squirmy little guy in his seat!


The rest of the week was pretty low-key. We enjoyed the lake, good food, and had naptime every afternoon. Mom (me) did a lot of shopping, as well... Don't tell Chris!


And of course, Nana and Pa had a good time playing with their two adorable grandkids!

It was a great trip but we were glad to get home to normalcy. Having a little one really makes these trips interesting and more tiring! Of course, since we've been home the last couple of days - Nate has developed a pretty bad cold. Probably one of the worst he's had yet. He was up coughing most of last night, in fact. So we're praying that he feels better soon!
